How much should I deduct from my gate when using your hinges and latches?

Typically we will leave a 3/4 inch gap on both the hinge side and the latch side. For example: If you have a 48 inch opening your gate panel should measure approximately 46-1/2 inches. These measurements are just a rule of thumb and can be deviated from. When retrofitting an existing gate you may find that you have a larger gap than the stock hinges and latches will cover. For these situations we carry spacers (for square posts), adaptors (for round posts) and hinges which will adjust to cover gaps up to 2 inches (models available for square and round posts). Pictured below is a vinyl gate with approximately 3/4 inch spacing on both sides.
